The park is built around the Dilthaman tank – once the only source of drinking water for the entire city of Port Blair and the nearby areas. Astonishingly, the park was built in just 13 days. Ideal for a family outing, the amusement rides, nature trail and boating at the lake – all add to an exciting trip for your little ones.
If you are looking for a lethargic day out, planning only to relax, grab a spot under the cool shade of the trees with your better half. Worrying about the children? Let them enjoy the perfectly safe yet amusing swings and rides.
At the center of the park is a statue of the father of the nation – Mahatma Gandhi. Apart from this, there are some other historical monuments around the park that you can ponder upon. The remains of a bunker and a Japanese temple are among those. More surprisingly, if you are fond of bird watching, Gandhi Park is a perfect place.
The street food vendors outside the park with their mouth-watering savories add the final masterstroke. Indulge in those and satisfy your hunger. The Gandhi Park is open during all days of the week from 08.00 a.m. to 08.00 p.m. On Saturdays, it remains open from 05.00 a.m. to 06.00 p.m.
