Located close to the Rajiv Gandhi Water Sports Complex, the Fisheries Aquarium houses over 350 different varieties of marine life. The devastating tsunami of 2005 destroyed the museum partially and has been rebuilt. In the beginning, it was a museum that was later transformed into an aquarium in 1997.

As an optimal ecosystem that supports a plethora of tropical plants and underwater marine life, you can get detailed knowledge about these life forms from the boards within the aquarium.

Small aquariums throughout the establishment display varieties of fish such as rabbitfish, hawksbills, leatherbacks, mangrove crabs, reef fishes, clownfish, green turtles and so on that are found only in the Bay of Bengal and the Indo-Pacific Ocean.

According to reports, more than 1200 species of fish from the surrounding waters, among which 300 being of the commercial species are found in the Fisheries Aquarium in Port Blair. All these varieties are exclusive only to the archipelago of islands.

The most interesting sights found here include the Skeleton of a Sperm Whale – the largest toothed whale and the life-sized display of a sawfish and dolphin. Apart from Mondays and public holidays, the Fisheries Aquarium in Port Blair remains open throughout the week from 09.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. and 02.00 p.m. to 04.45 p.m.
