Elephant beach

If you’ve ever been to the Andaman Islands, then you must have heard about the Havelock Island, and the Elephant beach present on it. Chances are, some of you might have even visited it, and if you haven’t yet, it might be time you do so. Havelock Island is largely known for its calm surroundings and clear beaches where people can spend some lovely time with family and loved ones.

About the Elephant Beach

Located in the northern part of Havelock Island (Swaraj Dweep), the beach is surrounded by tall trees and tropical forests. Characterised by soft white sands and extremely low water currents, the Elephant beach is a fascinating place for swimming.

Not only that, due to the presence of wooden seats along the beach, you can easily relax and munch on snacks while the kids enjoy. Since the waters are shallow and free from any hard rocks, it is perfectly safe for the kids. Moreover, you can also avail the facility of changing rooms and locker rooms near the beach.

While people usually visit Andaman to enjoy the sandy beaches and waters, there are a huge number of ones who are attracted to the thrill of water sports. This is the main reason they visit Elephant beach. A variety of water activities like Snorkelling, Jet-skiing, Sea Walking and so on can be availed here.

Apart from the adventure, the Elephant beach offers ample relaxation too. Snacks and fresh seafood from the nearby shops and restaurants are a must-try here. This makes it an excellent place that you can take your family to, and for the best experience, we suggest you choose our Andaman Family Package that can cater to your needs.

The best time to visit the beach is generally from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can visit the beach round the year but one should avoid the monsoon season.

Getting to the Beach

Elephant Beach is located at a distance of about 8.6 km from the jetty of the Swaraj Dweep. You can reach the beach either through ferries and boats or by trekking. Here are the details of the journey:

By Ferries or Boats

The ferries and boats operate regularly from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The total travel time is about 20 minutes from the jetty to the beach. You can either book your tickets from outside the jetty or contact your Andaman Transport Operator.

By Trekking

Due to the lack of road connectivity to the beach, you can trek to your destination. This path is regularly followed by the locals as well as trek enthusiasts. Covered by tropical forests, this muddy path will be an exciting journey if you are an adventure enthusiast. However, make sure to wear boots and take other precautionary measures from mosquitoes and other insects.

A Few Things to Remember

·        The Elephant beach is open only during the day (from 8 AM up to 5 PM that is), but you shouldn’t have a problem reaching there as ferries are available at regular intervals and these are scheduled from quite early in the morning. After spending the day on the beach, you may choose to spend the night at a nearby resort.

·        The mobile network connectivity isn’t usually the best in and around Elephant beach, but it does depend on the telecom brand whose connection that you use. Nevertheless, we would suggest you do not rely much on telephone connectivity during your stay.

·        If you’ve opted for any Andaman Tour Operator, then they would be carrying emergency first aid kits and such basic supplies. However, the nearest medical facility is in Port Blair, so it’s best if you take some precautions of your own.

·        After you’ve visited Elephant beach, make sure you have some time for other nearby places as well like the Kala Pathar beach, Vijay Nagar beach, etc. These may not be the most adventurous but do offer you a much-needed peace and tranquillity after the hubbub that you might notice on the beach we are talking about.
