Recently, on Friday evening, an Air India flight successfully landed at the Port Blair airport.

At about 7:40 p.m. on Friday, an Air India Airbus A381 carrying 68 people safely landed at INS Utkrosh of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC). The plane then flew to Veer Savarkar International Airport, where passengers disembarked. This successful night landing was a step toward improving aviation connection to ANI, benefiting both islanders and tourists.

The Indian Navy, Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) worked together to make this historic occasion possible. AAI has updated the Instrument Landing System (ILS) to CAT – I at Veer Savarkar International Airport to meet the expected increase in tourist traffic. Other critical tasks, such as runway resurfacing and a Precision Lighting System with approach lights, have also been accomplished.

The aforementioned airfield amenities have been commissioned and calibrated with the assistance of AAI. AAI developed, verified, and approved new approach methods for operational usage. These efforts resulted in today’s successful landing of the airplane carrying passengers.
